The National Archives

A brand refresh for a national institution to support its growth as a visitor attraction.

For this project I was lucky enough to spend time in the archives at Kew geeking out on historical documents; physically touching paper handled by kings and queens, maps made by explorers and pattern books recording design history.

We worked with The National Archives staff, volunteers and visitors to define a future-facing purpose and set of values for this vital institution, and a visual identity that created space for artefacts to shine.

The National Archives was seen as a place for protection, conservation and history but the new brand works to position it as open to all for discovery, storytelling and inspiration.
